In Greek mythology and ancient Greek religion, Mnemosyne (/nɪˈmɒzɪniː, nɪˈmɒsɪniː/; Ancient Greek: Μνημοσύνη, pronounced [mnɛːmosýːnɛː]) is the goddess of memory and the mother of the nine Muses by her nephew Zeus. In the Greek tradition, Mnemosyne is one of the Titans, the twelve divine children of the earth-goddess Gaia and the sky-god Uranus. The term Mnemosyne is derived from the same source as the word mnemonic, that being the Greek word mnēmē, which means “remembrance, memory”.

A Titaness, Mnemosyne is the daughter of Uranus and Gaia.^[3][4][5] Mnemosyne became the mother of the nine Muses, fathered by her nephew, Zeus:

ムネーモシュネー（古希: Μνημοσύνη, Mnēmosynē）は、ギリシア神話に登場する記憶を神格化した女神である。日本語では長母音を省略してムネモシュネとも表記される。

ウーラノスとガイアの娘で、ティーターン族の一人であり、オーケアノス、コイオス、クレイオス、ヒュペリーオーン、イーアペトス、クロノス、テイアー、レアー、テミス、ポイベー、テーテュースと兄弟^[1][2]。

またゼウスとの間に9人のムーサ（ミューズ）たち、カリオペー、クレイオー、メルポメネー、エウテルペー、エラトー、テルプシコラー、ウーラニアー、タレイア、ポリュムニアーを生んだ^[3][4][5]。

ヘーシオドスの『神統記』によると、ムネーモシュネーはエレウテールの丘の主で、ピーエリアにおいてゼウスと9日間に渡って臥し、人々から苦しみを忘れさせる存在として9人のムーサたちを産んだという^[6]。

ムネーモシュネーは名前をつけることを始めたとされ^[7]、また学問の道を究めるときにはムネーモシュネーとムーサたちに祈願した^[8]。
